On Diet: Eating And Drinking The Proper Way

Every people have different lifestyles thus some diverse eating habits. While some eat most of the time, there are busy people who eat two meals a day only.Food and water are real essentials for life. But while eating and drinking little can be bad for the body, too much can also be hazardous for health.

The following are facts about the proper eating habit based on the Heavy Breakfast-Moderate Lunch-Light Dinner Meal Pattern designed by the Philippines’ top dietician experts Godoy and Varona.

Breakfast as the biggest meal

Since most activities are concentrated early in the day, breakfast should be the heaviest meal. This is to ensure that the body gets enough energy for work.More to this, a heavy breakfast is the first step for weight control.

With a big breakfast, a person tends to eat less during supper.

Supper at least three hours before bedtime

A light supper at least three hours before sleeping is highly recommended. Not only that this will ensure better weight control, a lightly filled stomach will be beneficial for a restful sleep.

The five hour intervals between meals

At least five hour interval between meals is essential for the digestion efficiency.Depending on the amount or the type of food consumed, a regular meal is usually digested in 4 to 5 hours. And of course, for the digestive system to work properly, a break is a must.

Fruits during breakfast and supper; Vegetables at noon time

Fruits and vegetables have the same category as glow foods. They are easier to digest when not eaten together.Hence, the best way to have them is to take them in separate eating times – fruits during breakfast and supper, while veggies at lunchtime.Eventually, their nutritional benefit will meet at the end of the day.

Two glasses of water thirty minutes before meals

Drinking plenty of water or other liquids during meal time tend to cause the dilution of digestive enzymes and gastric juices in the stomach. With this, food digestion can be less effective. It is best to drink water at least 30 minutes before eating or one and a half hours after the meal. But in cases that drinking water is needed at mealtime, do it in sips rather than in gulps.

Six to eight glasses of plain water is generally enough for a day but it is still best to take juices and other healthy drinks in addition to the daily water intake.

Heavy breakfast, heavy dinner

Heavy breakfast, moderate lunch and light dinner is applicable for people who eat three times daily. But in cases of people engaged in night duties or with people who are always busy – eating two meals a day, a heavy breakfast and a heavy dinner is required, although the second meal should be taken at least three hours before bed time.
